Woodbridge is part of the City of Vaughan, and accessory structures are governed by Vaughan's zoning bylaw alongside Ontario's provincial building code.

Key points to know:

In line with the Ontario Building Code, sheds under 15 square metres (160 sq ft) typically do not require a building permit, provided the structure is single-storey, detached, used for storage only, and has no plumbing or electrical.
Even without a permit, all structures must comply with Vaughan's zoning bylaw, including setback requirements.
Setbacks: in most Vaughan residential zones, a minimum of 0.6 metres (2 feet) from side and rear lot lines is typically required.
Any shed with electrical or plumbing requires a permit regardless of size.
Height limits and maximum lot coverage rules vary by zone. Confirm your specific property's requirements with the City before building.
