12x8 Storage Shed in Aurora, Ontario

A Growing Family in Aurora Needed Somewhere to Put Everything
Anyone with a growing family in Aurora knows the backyard fills up fast. Bikes, tools, patio furniture, holiday decorations: it all needs somewhere to go that isn't the garage floor.
Dave and Nicole ran into exactly that problem at their home on Tecumseh Drive. They needed a storage shed that could handle real volume without looking like an afterthought tacked onto the yard.
Backyard Escape Studios built them a 12x8 Essential Storage Shed designed around one goal: keep everything organized and out of the weather, in a structure that actually looks good sitting in an Aurora backyard.
Cedar Up Front, Steel on the Sides: How This Aurora Shed Reads in Real Light
The front of the shed is finished in 1x6 tight-knot cedar tongue and groove panelling, left in its natural tone. In morning light it reads warm and honey-coloured, almost golden against the green of the lawn. By late afternoon, with the sun lower, the same wood settles into a softer, more amber shade.
The sides and back tell a different story. Dark charcoal corrugated steel wraps around those three walls, giving the shed a firm, modern edge that contrasts against the cedar up front. Next to the natural wood, the dark steel makes the whole structure look intentional rather than mismatched, like two materials that were chosen to work together.
The roofline stays low and simple, with a black cap sheet over a self-adhering rolled roof and exposed rafters left visible under the overhang. It is a detail that keeps the profile from feeling boxy, which matters in a yard where the shed sits close to the house.
Two Doors Instead of One: The Upgrade That Changes How This Aurora Shed Gets Used
The original plan called for a single sliding barn door on a 36 inch opening. Dave and Nicole upgraded to two sliding barn doors on a full 60 inch rough opening instead, and that change is the real story of this build.
A single door works fine for grabbing a rake. It does not work as well when you are wheeling a mower in and out or carrying something with two hands. Two doors that slide open together give a much wider, clearer path in and out of the shed.
Each door carries three frosted Lexan windows, finished in the same dark charcoal as the corrugated steel with black hardware to match. The frosted glass lets daylight into the shed without turning it into a fishbowl, so there is enough light inside to find things without giving up privacy.
Storage Sheds Built for Aurora Backyards, and Everywhere Around Them
This storage shed was built for a home in Aurora, Ontario, a community where backyards run deep enough for families to actually use them, and where a shed built to code and finished properly holds its value. Homeowners across Aurora who are tired of a cluttered garage or a yard with no clean place to store equipment are exactly who this build is for.
Backyard Escape Studios installs storage sheds and custom backyard structures throughout Aurora and the surrounding York Region communities, including Newmarket, Richmond Hill, King City, and Whitchurch-Stouffville. Homeowners in nearby Markham and Vaughan have also turned to Backyard Escape Studios for the same kind of clean, functional backyard storage.
Whether the project is a compact storage shed like this one in Aurora or a larger studio build, the process stays the same: a design that fits the property, materials chosen for how they hold up, and an installation crew that shows up and gets it done.
