12x8 Workshop Shed Custom-Fit to a Side Yard in Burlington Ontario

Built to Fit: A Workshop Shed in a Burlington Side Yard
Not every shed goes in the backyard. This homeowner in Burlington needed a workshop space, but the backyard didn't have room for it. What they did have was a narrow strip of land running between their house and the neighbour's property. It's the kind of space most people write off as unusable. We saw it differently.
We built this 12x8 Essential Shed to slot right into that side yard. The clearances were tight. We had to account for the house's eaves, the downspout, the existing landscaping along the foundation, and the setback from the property line. None of that was a problem. We measured the space, designed the shed to fit within it, and installed it in a single day.
We Adapt to Your Site, Not the Other Way Around
This is one of those builds that shows what custom actually means. A prefab shed comes in fixed dimensions and you have to figure out where to put it. We start with the space you have and build to fit it. That could mean adjusting the width by a few inches, positioning the door on a specific wall so it opens into a walkway, or orienting the roof slope so it sheds water away from the house. On this project, everything was planned around the constraints of the side yard, and the result is a shed that looks like it was always meant to be there.
The door is on the front face, facing the gap between the two houses. That gives the homeowner direct access from the driveway without having to walk around to the back. The frosted window on the side wall lets natural light into the workshop during the day. Small decisions, but they make the difference between a shed you actually enjoy using and one that feels like an afterthought.
Pine Tongue and Groove with a Paint-Ready Finish
The front and back walls are clad in natural pine 1x6 tongue and groove, and the side walls are charcoal corrugated steel with charcoal aluminum trim. The photos here show the shed as it was delivered, before the homeowner applied their own finish. The pine was left natural so the customer could paint or stain it to match their house, which they chose to do in charcoal to complement the steel.
This is an option we offer on any build. Some customers want a fully finished shed delivered ready to go. Others prefer to handle the paint or stain themselves, either to save on cost or because they want total control over the final colour match. We're happy either way. The tongue and groove profile gives a tighter, more refined look than standard shiplap, and it takes paint or stain beautifully.
Workshop Sheds in Burlington and Halton Region
A lot of Burlington homes have these side yards that are just sitting empty. Too narrow for a patio, too wide to ignore. A custom-fit shed turns that dead space into something productive. Whether you want a workshop, a home gym, extra storage, or just a place to get away from the house for an hour, that strip of land between the houses can work harder than you think.
We serve Burlington and the wider Halton Region, including Oakville, Milton, Georgetown, and Acton. We also do a lot of work in Hamilton, Dundas, and Waterdown, which are right next door. If you've got an awkward space and you're not sure a shed can fit, send us the measurements. We've made it work in tighter spots than you'd expect.
