A Bold Red Shed That Owns the Backyard in Etobicoke

Most of the sheds we build are black, grey, or natural wood tones. This one is none of those. The homeowner in Etobicoke wanted something with personality, and they weren't shy about it. Bright red corrugated steel, red trim, red barn door. When you walk into the backyard, you see it immediately, and that's exactly what they were going for.

This is a 12x8 Advanced Garden Shed built for garden and yard tool storage. But calling it a storage shed doesn't really do it justice. It's more like a statement piece that happens to hold a lawnmower.

Why the Advanced Model Works Here

The Advanced Shed has a few features that set it apart from the Essential, and they all show up well on this build. The clerestory windows along the top of the front wall let natural light pour into the shed without taking up wall space where you'd want to lean rakes and shovels. That's a practical detail that matters when you're actually using the shed day to day.

The deep roof overhang with exposed rafter tails is the other big difference. It gives the shed a much more architectural feel and provides some weather protection over the door area. On a red shed like this, the overhang also creates a nice shadow line that adds depth to the front face. It would look much flatter without it.

Red Steel and Natural Pine: Not the Obvious Combo

The material pairing here is interesting because red steel is not what most people picture when they think of a modern shed. But it works. The natural pine shiplap on the front has a clear coat finish that keeps the wood looking fresh and light, and the bright red steel on the side walls and door creates a strong contrast. The red aluminum trim frames everything and wraps the roofline for a clean edge.

The sliding barn door has three glass panels that break up the solid red surface and let additional light into the interior. The galvanized steel track hardware is a nice industrial touch against the red paint.
