Two 10x10 Pool Sheds in Hamilton, Ontario

When One Pool Shed Isn't Enough: A Matched Pair in Hamilton, Ontario
Anyone who owns a pool knows the problem. You need somewhere to store equipment, somewhere to change, somewhere to put the towels, the floats, and everything else that accumulates around a pool deck. One small shed never quite covers it. The homeowner in Hamilton had a better idea: two Cube Sheds, positioned symmetrically on either side of the pool, each one a mirror of the other. The result is a backyard that feels designed, not assembled.
Backyard Escape Studios built two matching 10x10 Cube Sheds for this Hamilton property, each one finished to the same spec and installed in a single day. The goal was a cohesive pool-area setup that could handle the practical demands of a working backyard while holding its own visually against a renovated pool deck and landscaping.
Cedar and Steel: How This Finish Works in Real Light
The material combination on these sheds is one that Backyard Escape Studios returns to often, because it works in almost every light condition and against almost every backdrop. The front and partial side walls are clad in 1x6 horizontal tight-knot pine tongue-and-groove, stained in a warm cedar tone that reads as honey in direct sun and deepens to amber on overcast days. It has a grain-forward texture that keeps the surface from looking flat, and the horizontal run of the boards draws the eye across the full width of each shed.
The remaining walls are finished in 7/8-inch corrugated Jet Black steel. This is not a dark grey or a charcoal: it is a true, absorptive black that anchors each structure to the ground and frames the cedar without competing with it. Where the two materials meet at the corners, the contrast is clean and deliberate. Against the pool water and the pale stone deck, the combination reads as sharp and considered, not heavy.
The roofline is flat and finished with an EPDM membrane, which eliminates the visual busyness of a pitched roof and keeps both structures reading as compact modern volumes rather than traditional sheds.
French Doors on a Pool Shed: The Upgrade That Changes Everything
Each shed received a pair of 72x80 clear glass French doors as an upgrade over the standard single door, and this decision matters more than it might seem. On a pool shed, full-size French doors mean you can move awkward equipment in and out without angling anything through a narrow opening. Loungers, floats, and storage totes all pass through cleanly. The doors swing inward and the clear glass panels mean you can see exactly what is inside without opening them, which sounds minor until you are standing on a wet pool deck trying to locate a specific item.
The frosted glass on the smaller access door of the first unit gives privacy where it is wanted, while the clear French doors on both units keep the front faces light and open. Black hardware and door framing tie back to the Jet Black steel siding without requiring any additional colour to be introduced. Every element references something already on the shed.
Custom Pool Sheds Built for Hamilton and the Surrounding Area
Hamilton homeowners with pools are dealing with a specific set of constraints. Many properties in the city's older established neighbourhoods, from Kirkendall and Strathcona to Ancaster and Dundas, have mature trees, irregular lots, and limited space between the pool edge and the fence line. A structure that works in those conditions needs to be compact, cleanly designed, and installed without disrupting a finished yard. That is exactly what this build demonstrates.
Backyard Escape Studios serves Hamilton and the broader surrounding area, including Stoney Creek, Waterdown, Flamborough, Binbrook, and Caledonia. The team also builds regularly in Burlington, Oakville, Grimsby, and throughout Niagara and Halton Region. If you have a pool in Hamilton and you are looking for a custom pool shed builder who will treat your yard like a finished space, not a job site, get in touch.
