A Modern Garden Shed for a Family Home in Hamilton, Ontario

We built this 12x8 Essential Shed for a homeowner in Hamilton who needed proper outdoor storage without sacrificing the look of their backyard. The yard already had a lot going on, with a kids' play structure, mature trees, and cedar privacy fencing, so the shed had to fit in and look like it belonged there. That's exactly what we delivered.

Cedar and Galvalume: A Clean, Modern Material Combination

The front of the shed is finished in natural cedar shiplap with a clear coat. This keeps the natural grain and warmth of the wood visible while giving it solid protection against rain, snow, and UV. The side walls are clad in galvalume corrugated steel, which has a bright silver tone that pairs really well with the natural cedar. It's low maintenance and holds up for years without fading or rusting.

Galvalume trim wraps the corners and roofline, tying both materials together. The lean-to roof with exposed rafter tails gives the whole thing an architectural feel that you don't usually see on a storage shed. It blends in well with the horizontal cedar fencing around the property and the style of the house.

The Black Barn Door: Style Meets Function

The highlight of this build is the black sliding barn door with three frosted glass panels. A barn door is a great choice when space is tight because it doesn't swing outward and block the walkway or grass area around the shed. It slides on a top-mounted track and gives you full access to the interior in one motion. The frosted glass lets light into the shed while keeping everything inside out of view, which makes a real difference when the shed is right in the middle of an active family yard.
