8x8 Pool Shed in Hamilton, Ontario

Anyone Who Owns a Pool Knows the Problem
Pool equipment, hoses, chemicals, and everything else that keeps a backyard water feature running has to live somewhere. Patrick's Hamilton backyard had the pool, the hot tub, and the mature trees, but nowhere for the practical side of it all. What the yard needed was a structure that could hold its own visually in a space that already had a lot going on, without looking like an afterthought wedged into the corner.
The answer was an 8x8 Essential Pool Shed from Backyard Escape Studios, designed to sit right at the pool's edge in Hamilton and carry the weight of a well-finished outdoor space.
Charcoal Steel and Warm Pine: A Contrast That Earns Its Place
Three walls of this Hamilton pool shed are clad in 7/8" corrugated steel in Charcoal, a colour that reads differently depending on the light and what it sits beside. In full sun it holds a deep, cool grey. In shade it pushes toward near-black. Against the warm buff tones of the surrounding brick and the bright blue of the pool, that depth works as an anchor rather than a void. It gives the yard a fixed point.
The front wall does the opposite. Horizontal 1x6 premium tight-knot pine, stained in Muskoka Brown, brings in the warmth the steel keeps out. Muskoka Brown on pine reads less like a stain and more like something the wood was always meant to be: amber in direct light, richer and more golden in the dappled shade cast by the Japanese maple overhead. The contrast between the charcoal steel wrapping three sides and that warm pine face is not a style decision so much as a material conversation.
The exposed rafters and soffits carry the same Muskoka Brown stain, which extends the warmth overhead and ties the front wall into the roofline. The result is a shed that feels finished from every angle, including above.
A Sliding Barn Door That Works Poolside
The 42" sliding barn door, finished in Black Beauty and positioned on the right side of the front wall, was the right call for a tight pool deck. A hinged door in this location would have meant choosing between blocking the walkway and blocking access to the shed. A sliding door solves that entirely. It opens fully without consuming space and closes with a hardware latch that holds up to the moisture and humidity a pool environment produces year-round.
The three frosted Lexan glass windows set into the door add natural light to the interior while maintaining privacy for whatever is stored inside. Frosted glass is also the right choice for a door that sits at eye level on a pool deck where people are moving back and forth all day. It diffuses rather than reveals.
