22x16 Backyard Studio in Huntsville, Ontario

A Cottage-Country Studio That Earns Its Square Footage in Huntsville
Some structures are built for a suburban lot, where neighbours are close and sight lines are short. This one was built for Huntsville, where the trees go up thirty feet and the nearest road disappears behind the pines. The goal was a full-sized, properly insulated backyard studio that could serve year-round, not just on warm weekends.
At 22 feet wide and 16 feet deep, this Studio from Backyard Escape Studios gives the property a dedicated, functional space that doesn't ask the main cottage to give anything up. The site required a level insulated concrete foundation, which was ready before the crew arrived, and installation came in at five days with two workers on site.
Muskoka Brown Pine That Looks Like It Grew Here
The siding is 1x6 horizontal premium tight-knot pine tongue-and-groove panelling, run across all four walls and stained in Muskoka Brown. That colour is exactly what the name suggests: a warm, golden-tan brown that sits somewhere between raw cedar and a well-used dock board, deepening slightly in overcast light and going almost amber when the afternoon sun hits it directly.
Against the surrounding boreal treeline, it reads as natural rather than placed. It doesn't try to announce itself. The exposed soffits and roof overhang, 20 inches on three sides, carry the same Muskoka Brown stain, so the colour carries through the roofline and ties the whole structure together rather than cutting off at the wall cap.
The roof is finished in black self-adhering IKO rolled asphalt, which sits dark and flat against the sky and lets the warmth of the pine do all the visual work. The gentle mono-pitch, dropping from 10 feet at the front to 9 at the back, keeps the profile low and horizontal in a way that suits the natural setting.
A Full-Glass Door That Changes How the Space Feels from Outside
The door is a 36x80 black aluminum-clad inswing full-glass panel, centred on the front wall and flanked by two 36x72 black vinyl casement windows. From the outside, this arrangement reads as a wall of glass held in a frame of pine: the black aluminum and black window frames pull together while the wood wraps around them.
That matters functionally as much as visually. The full-glass door and the large casements on either side mean the interior is flooded with light from the front, and whoever is inside has a clear sightline into the trees. The awning windows on the back wall and side walls, four in total at 72x24 inches, give cross-ventilation without requiring the main door to stay open.
The wall and roof assembly is fully insulated: R14 fibreglass in the stud bays, R5 exterior insulation with house wrap and metal wind bracing, and R19 in the roof. This Studio is built to be used in February as readily as August, which in Huntsville is the only kind of build worth doing.
Custom Backyard Studio Builder Serving Huntsville and Muskoka
Huntsville homeowners and cottage-country property owners have a specific problem that most shed companies aren't set up to solve: the build has to travel, it has to handle the climate, and it has to fit a site that is rarely flat or simple. Backyard Escape Studios builds and installs across Muskoka, including Huntsville, Bracebridge, Gravenhurst, Port Carling, and Lake of Bays.
This 22x16 backyard studio is the kind of build that works equally well as a year-round home office, a creative studio, a guest overflow space, or a multi-purpose retreat that serves the whole property. For property owners in Muskoka District who want a custom studio builder rather than a kit shed, Backyard Escape Studios delivers and installs directly to your site.
The team also builds across Simcoe County and the broader cottage country corridor, serving Barrie, Collingwood, Midland, and Parry Sound for homeowners looking for a backyard studio with real insulation, real materials, and a build that doesn't cut corners on the finish.
