9x7.5 Essential Shed with Roll-Up Bar Window in King City, Ontario

A Backyard Bar Built into a Shed: King City Gets Creative
Some projects are about storage. This one was about something more. The homeowner in King City wanted a backyard structure that could actually earn its place in the yard — not just hold tools, but become a reason to be outside. The result is a 9x7.5 Essential Shed with a full roll-up bar window on the front wall, turning what could have been an ordinary utility structure into the kind of thing guests ask about.
The site was a residential property in King City, Ontario, with an existing concrete pad ready for installation. One day in, one day out. That's how it goes when the foundation is already done and the build is dialled in.
Jet Black Steel and Muskoka Brown Pine: How These Two Materials Work Together
The corrugated 7/8" steel siding on the right, left, and back walls is finished in Jet Black. In flat daylight, it reads as a deep charcoal — almost graphite. In shade, it goes fully dark, the kind of finish that makes the structure feel deliberate and solid rather than decorative. It doesn't compete with the yard. It anchors it.
The front wall is a different material entirely: 1x6 horizontal premium tight-knot pine tongue-and-groove panelling, stained in Muskoka Brown. That stain sits warm on the wood, pulling out the amber and honey tones in the grain. Up against the black steel, the contrast is immediate and intentional. The pine front makes the shed feel approachable from the yard. The steel sides keep it looking modern and serious from every other angle.
The exposed soffits and overhangs are stained Black Beauty, tying the roofline back into the darker tones of the steel and giving the whole structure a finished, cohesive perimeter. The 30-inch front overhang is generous enough to provide real shelter over the bar ledge below.
The Roll-Up Bar Window Is the Detail That Changes Everything
The standout feature on this build is the roll-up bar window centered on the pine front wall. A 36-inch-high opening fitted with 60-inch black aluminum roll shutters, operated electrically with a key fob, opens the front of the shed into the yard in a way no standard window or door can. When it's up, the inside of the shed connects directly to the outdoor space. When it's closed, the shutters read as another clean black horizontal element on the face of the pine wall.
Below the opening, a 12x68-inch pine ledge stained in Muskoka Brown acts as the bar surface. It's wide enough to be genuinely useful, supported by black steel brackets that match the steel trim on the rest of the structure. The customer arranged for a 110V receptacle nearby, which means the rollup motor is wired and ready. This detail took the shed from functional to social. That's the kind of upgrade that changes how you use your backyard.
