15x8 Essential Double Door Shed in Kitchener, Ontario

Two Doors, One Shed: A Storage and Workshop Setup in Kitchener
Not every shed is built for one job. This 15x8 Essential Shed in Kitchener was designed from the start to pull double duty: one side for storage, one side for a dedicated workshop space, with a dividing wall separating the two. The result is a backyard structure that functions like two rooms while looking like one clean, considered building.
The shed sits on an existing concrete pad on the property, which kept the installation efficient. The footprint is generous enough to make the two-zone layout work without either space feeling cramped, and the overall form reads as one cohesive structure from the yard.
Barnboard Grey Chamclad and Jet Black Steel: How This Palette Works in a Kitchener Winter
The walls of this shed are clad in Chamclad shiplap exterior panelling in Barnboard Grey, a smooth-profile engineered board with a tone that shifts depending on the light. Against a grey Ontario sky, it reads as cool and almost slate-like. When the sun catches the horizontal lines of the shiplap, the surface opens up with texture and warmth, somewhere between weathered timber and raw concrete. It holds its own against both the brick of the neighbouring home and the clean concrete of the pad below.
Jet Black corrugated 7/8" steel runs along all four corners, creating a hard frame around the softer Chamclad panels. The corrugated profile of the steel adds its own rhythm: tight vertical lines that contrast against the horizontal run of the shiplap without competing with it. The black trim pieces and flashing continue the same tone at every edge and transition, so nothing reads as an afterthought.
The exposed rafters and soffits are stained black to carry the roofline into the same palette. Looking at this shed from across the yard, every element connects. Nothing is left unresolved.
Two Frosted Glass Doors and a Side Window: Light Where It Counts
The front wall of this Kitchener shed carries two 36x80 full frosted glass outswing doors, positioned side by side with a Chamclad panel between them. Each door serves its own zone: one entry into the storage side, one into the workshop. That separation matters in daily use. You don't have to move stored items to access the workspace, and the two areas stay functionally independent even though they share a roof and a wall.
The frosted glass on both doors does the same work it does on any well-designed shed: it lets natural light into both zones without putting the contents on display from the yard. A 30x20 slider vinyl window on the side wall adds cross-ventilation and additional daylight to the workshop side, which is exactly where you want it. Working in a naturally lit space with moving air is a different experience than working in a sealed box, and these two details make that possible without adding any complexity to the exterior.
Custom Shed Builders Serving Kitchener and the Region of Waterloo
A two-zone shed like this one is a practical solution for a specific kind of homeowner: someone who needs real storage capacity and a dedicated space to work, without building a full garage addition or sacrificing the rest of the yard. That kind of thinking shows up a lot in Kitchener, where homeowners in neighbourhoods like Doon, Forest Heights, Stanley Park, and Centreville-Chicopee are making the most of established lots and looking for structures that actually solve a problem.
Backyard Escape Studios designs and installs custom sheds across Kitchener and throughout the Region of Waterloo, including Waterloo, Cambridge, Guelph, Elmira, and Baden.
