12x6 Pool Shed in Whitby, Ontario

A Whitby Pool Build That Needed One Last Piece
Anyone who has just finished a pool build knows the feeling. The water is in, the deck is laid, the landscaping is fresh, and the yard still feels like it is waiting for one last piece. That was the situation in Brooklin, the north end of Whitby, where P. had just wrapped a full pool installation and needed a shed that would close out the design instead of fighting against it.
The brief was simple: a 12x6 Essential Shed sized to fit tight against the pool deck, built to hold pool equipment and seasonal storage, and finished to match the contemporary lines of the new pool and patio. The pool shed had to feel like part of the build, not an afterthought parked at the back of the yard.
What we landed on is a low-slope skillion-roof Essential Shed in white and black, set directly on the stone pavers at the head of the pool, with double sliding barn doors that open wide enough to move bulky pool gear in and out without thinking about it.
White Pine and Corrugated Steel: How This Whitby Pool Shed Reads in Real Light
The front wall is 1x6 horizontal premium tight-knot pine T+G stained in White Satin, a clean off-white that softens against the harder white of the corrugated steel on the sides and back. In the overcast light of a Whitby morning the front reads as warm and almost matte, while the side walls catch any direction the sun is coming from and throw it back in sharp ribbed lines.
The steel on the right, left and back walls is 7/8" corrugated in Cambridge White, the kind of pure crisp white that holds up against pool deck glare without going grey or yellow over the seasons. Up close you can see the vertical ribs cast small shadow lines down the wall, which keeps the side elevations from reading flat.
The sliding barn doors are stained in Black Beauty, a deep saturated black with no blue or brown in it, and they sit dead centre on the front face with three frosted Lexan window panels per door. The exposed soffits and overhangs are stained the same Black Beauty, which draws a clean black line along the roof edge and ties the door colour back up to the cap of the structure. Against the cedar fence and the deep red maples behind the build, the whole pool shed feels intentional rather than dropped in.
Double Sliding Barn Doors That Open the Whole Pool Shed at Once
The decision that most defines this Whitby pool shed is the double sliding barn door layout instead of a standard single outswing. With a 60 inch rough opening split across two doors, P. can pull both sides open at once and walk a pool cover, a pump, or a stack of patio furniture straight in without angling anything through a narrow gap.
That matters more than it sounds. Pool storage is bulky, and the moments you actually open the shed are usually the moments you have something awkward in your hands. A sliding system also means the doors never swing out onto the pool deck, which keeps the walking path between the pool coping and the shed face fully clear at all times.
The three frosted Lexan panels per door let daylight into the interior without giving any visibility from outside, so the shed reads finished from the pool side but still feels practical inside when you reach in for chemicals or a skimmer.
Custom Pool Sheds for Whitby, Brooklin and the Durham Region
This Whitby pool shed sits in Brooklin, the established north end of the city where larger lots and recent pool installations make a structure like this a natural next step. Homeowners in Brooklin tend to be finishing pool projects with the rest of the yard still in motion, and the Essential Shed sized at 12x6 hits the right footprint for properties that already have a generous pool deck but limited dedicated equipment storage.
We serve homeowners across Whitby, from Brooklin and Williamsburg in the north down through Pringle Creek, Rolling Acres, and Downtown Whitby toward the Port Whitby waterfront. The same pool shed build works well in neighbouring Oshawa, Ajax, Pickering, and Courtice, where new pool installations are common across Durham Region and the broader east GTA.
If you are finishing a pool project in Whitby or anywhere in Durham Region and want a pool shed that matches the level of detail in the rest of your build, we deliver from our Port Stanley shop and install on site in a single day.
