16x9 Pool Cabana in Sarnia, Ontario

A Poolside Cabana in Sarnia That Does Two Jobs at Once
Anyone who owns a backyard pool in Sarnia knows the small frustrations: wet feet tracking into the house, towels piling up on patio furniture, and nowhere private to change without trekking inside. The homeowners on Sandpiper Drive wanted to fix all of it in one move. They asked us for a custom Pool Cabana that could give them a private change room, dedicated pool storage, and a shaded lounge area right at the water's edge.
The result is a 16x9 Cabana built in our Cube style: a flat-roof, modern silhouette that sits low and confident against the fence line. The enclosed shed portion handles privacy and storage, while the open pavilion to its right gives the family a shaded place to dry off, sit down, and stay out of the Sarnia sun. One structure, two functions, zero compromises.
Jet Black Steel Meets Warm Teak Shiplap Beside the Pool
The exterior is built around a deliberate two-tone contrast that anchors the cabana visually without overwhelming the yard. On the back and the left side of the shed, we ran 7/8" corrugated steel in Jet Black. In Sarnia's bright summer light, that black reads almost graphite, with the ridges of the corrugation catching the sun and throwing soft shadow lines down the wall. In overcast weather or at dusk, it pulls back and disappears into the fence line, which is exactly what you want from a structure that should feel intentional, not loud.
The front of the shed and the right wall under the pavilion are clad in 6" Mac Harry shiplap in Teak, a maintenance-free composite with a real wood grain pattern. Up close it reads as warm honey, almost cedar-toned, and it softens the whole build. The teak runs horizontally, which visually widens the cabana and ties it to the rest of the wood detailing overhead.
Above the pavilion, the ceiling is finished in 1x6 tight-knot pine T+G stained Muskoka Brown, with exposed Douglas fir rafters and 6x6 Douglas fir posts. Look up while you are under it and the warm wood overhead feels like a covered porch, not a shed. The flat roof itself is finished in grey TPO membrane, kept clean and modern with no overhangs.
A Frosted Glass Door That Turns the Shed Into a Real Change Room
The detail that sets this Pool Cabana apart in Sarnia is the door. We installed a 36x80 black inswing door with a full-glass frosted insert and silver hardware, mounted into the teak wall under the pavilion roof. The frosted glass pulls natural light into the enclosed shed all day, so it never feels like a dark closet when you step inside to change. At the same time, it gives the homeowners full privacy from the pool deck.
That single decision is what elevates this build from a storage shed into a working change room. You step out of the pool, walk under the shade of the pavilion, open a real door into a finished, naturally lit room, change, and walk back out: no wet trips through the house, no improvising with towels. The enclosed 4x9 footprint is enough room for hooks, a bench, and a place to keep pool chemicals and floats out of sight.
The frosted glass also gives the cabana a much more residential, architectural feel than a typical shed door would. From the pool side, the door reads as part of the design, not an afterthought.
Custom Pool Cabanas Across Sarnia and Lambton County
Sarnia is a strong market for poolside builds. Homes along the Bluewater corridor and in established neighbourhoods like Blackwell, Wiltshire Park, Heritage Park, and Rosedale often have generous backyards and mature in-ground pools that have outgrown their original change facilities. This kind of Pool Cabana is built for those homeowners: families who use the pool every weekend in the summer and want a finished, low-maintenance structure that actually solves the problem instead of just adding more square footage.
If you live in Sarnia, Point Edward, Bright's Grove, Corunna, or Camlachie, this build is exactly the kind of project we install in a single day on a prepared concrete pad. We also serve the broader Lambton County area, including Petrolia, Forest, and the cottage stretch along Lake Huron toward Grand Bend. For homeowners further east, we regularly work in Strathroy, London, and across Middlesex County as well.
Backyard Escape Studios builds custom Cabanas, Sheds, Studios, and Pergolas across southwestern Ontario. If you have a pool in Sarnia and need a cabana that handles change room duty, pool storage, and shaded lounging in one clean build, this project is a good starting point for the conversation.
