Room for the Mower and Bigger Gear in Waterloo

A lawnmower and larger equipment take up more room than a standard garden shed can give, and wheeled gear needs a wide, level way in. A building that size also has to sit comfortably in the back garden rather than take it over.

This 16x28 storage shed in Waterloo was built for exactly that. It is an Advanced Shed, 16 ft wide and 28 ft deep, with a 10 ft wide motorized aluminium roll-up door on the 16 ft front, so mowers and wheeled equipment roll straight in from the yard. The door opens by remote or keypad.

At 448 square feet, it is well past the 15 m² (about 161 sq ft) mark where Waterloo requires a building permit for a shed, and this one was approved by the City with no design changes.

Jet Black Steel and Grey Vinyl Plank on a Modern Storage Shed

The exterior pairs grey Westridge vinyl plank with Jet Black textured corrugated steel. Arctic Grey covers the 16 ft front and Gun Metal Grey runs along the 28 ft entry side, while the steel wraps the back wall, the right side and the wall returns.

A sealed membrane roof sits at a low 5 degree slope above a 9 ft 6 in front wall, finished with enclosed aluminium soffits and black fascia and trim. The walls are framed in 2x6 with 7/16 OSB sheathing, and the shed sits on a concrete slab.

Everyday Access and Daylight Along the Storage Shed's Long Side

The roll-up door handles the big equipment. For everyday trips, a single 36 x 80 full glass black entry door opens inward on the 28 ft side, and three black-framed transom windows run along the same wall.

Set in the back corner of a large yard under mature trees, the dark steel and muted greys sit quietly against the wood privacy fences. Every part of this Waterloo build was cut and prefabricated in the BES shop, then assembled on site by our crew.
